Russell W. (Rusty) Miller of Camas Washington passed away at his home yesterday. Forum regulars know him as “Camaschess”. He has served the royal game well for decades. He served in just about every capacity within the Washington Chess Federation, including several stints as editor or fill-in editor for Northwest Chess magazine. He directed my first organized chess event, the 1970 Washington High School team tournament. I last saw him at the US Open in Vancouver Washington, but we’ve exchanged numerous emails over the decades. He often contributed NWC history articles “5-10-15-20-25 years ago”, and he made it a point to let me know if he came across anything about my father. I am unaware of any reports of him being ill, and he posted on Facebook as recently as Dec 26, so his passing came as a shock to me.
Rusty will be greatly missed!
