For those of you who missed it Saturday Night:
Wish I had still missed it. Thanks for posting but not funny at all.
That was hilarious!!!
Different parts are funny to varying degrees, depending on one’s taste in humor. But I didn’t think there was a chessplayer who wouldn’t laugh at the first few seconds when the first woman quickly announced mate against the host. The reaction of the host was about what I would expect from most chessplayers out there!
I stopped watching at the sight of blood.
“'Tain’t funny, McGee.”
I hear they sucked it up in Forks, WA.
An early Saturday Night Live show had a sketch with John Belushi as the model of a high school chess coach.
He’d stand on the sidelines during a match yelling at the players “Pawn to Knight Five! Pawn to Knight Five!” and throw down his clipboard in frustration when his kid made another move. “You call that castling?” he’d shout, “Why don’t you give him the king?”
Back in the locker room, he’d tell the team how they’d have to handle this tough opponent, and began to draw up formations on the chalkboard. Only he had to rule off 64 squares and start coloring in alternate ones before he could get started as the team waited patiently.
It was pretty good.
I found a rough copy here:

Sorry, it was Jim Belushi. The parts I quoted were close, if not exact!
