I’d like to find a piece of software that emulates a chess set and does nothing else except has forward/back buttons. Chessbase has the ability to let you setup a position and move thru it as you wish, which is what I use now for working through instructional books, but I’d like a seperate stand alone program. Does anyone know of one?
I use Winboard, available as a free download at:
It loads PGNs (game files) and FENs (position files) and will also accept yahoo games cut and pasted directly from email.
When I installed Winboard, it came with a chess engine, so it can analyze as you click through a game, though it’s not the clearest or smartest engine on the planet. Then again, it was free.
I use Chesspad quite often.
ChessCat! Great software, easy attachment of Crafty, easy to comment games, easy to incorporate variations, and board can be various sizes and colors. I have selected colors that are easier on my eyes.
