The Old Fashioned Way....

Yet another reason to follow the international standard best practice of providing a standard scoresheet and requiring its use.

We never used to put a scoresheet into the adjournment envelope. The player would write his selected move on an adjournment card with a diagram or on a small sheet of paper. It was possible to place a scoresheet inside the envelope, but this was only if the double scoresheet was available so the player had a copy. Players did not want to tear their scoresheet out of their scorebooks. Things used to be simpler and more reasonable. Claims were determined as usual.

Players used to hate adjournments. I would usually “threaten” the players by coming to a table with an adjournment envelope in hand and stand there quietly watching them play a move or two in the dead drawn position on the board. They got the message and would offer a draw, sometimes simultaneously!
