I’ll make an assumption that you are referring to splitting the tie monetary prizes evenly amongst the players that tied for them (i.e. splitting the total of the 3rd through 6th prizes, with the only prizes being for the top six, between the eight players tieing for 3rd through 10th).
If that assumption is correct then an even money split is supposed to be done anyway. Tiebreaks are only for non-divisible awards (trophies, books, scholarships, US Championship qualifying spots, etc.).
A blitz play-off might take a while for something like the recent years’ national scholastic championship sections that had more than six players tieing for first.
On the other hand, you might have been saying that the money should be split evenly between all players regardless of score, and the trophies should be given to every player.
If that was so then please add a smiley face to the post to indicate it wasn’t serious.
P.S. Last month my club had quick-rated quads with no entry fee and no prizes of any type, and there were still people interested in how the tie-breaks came out (for bragging rights).
Second problem - an organizer can buy a bunch of trophies cheaper than players who each buy one - and it feels better too. So replacing trophies with cash will either seem paltry (from a player’s perspective, if done at cost) or expensive (if done from an organizer’s perspective, if done at "replacement value.)
