Does anyone know why the USCF is so philosophically opposed to time increments? What is so blatantly wrong with having more time than when the game started? It hasn’t destroyed chess as we know it over the internet, and it would be nice to have things match up (internet vs. OTB). Maybe McCrary could do a history on chess timers (including why delay is preferred, or used to be preferred, by the initial rules editors).
If the only major objection is elongating the round duration, then shouldn’t it at least be an option for the organizers to decide if it is worth implementing in their event (assuming round length not a problem)? In other words, can it be as a standard announcement at the beginning of the event and not something they have to advertise in advance?
I am simply befuddled, and would honestly appreciate any feeback from those in the know.
