Unable to validate event

I’m trying to submit an online tournament for rating, but the system won’t validate the event. After clicking on the validate event button it comes back with the status as “Not Validated Yet” and the “Validate Event” button still present. I’ve checked all the usual stuff. There was one alert (a GM with a low performance warning who only went 4.5 out of 5). The status from the validation is that there are no errors or warnings. In fact the validation email has this to say:

I’m a bit at a loss where to look further. There is also a demographic alert where one player doesn’t have an email address. But, that seems unlikely to affect this. It has been a while, but I’ve submitted lots of tournaments in the past. This is the first time I’ve had this issue. Is there something going on with the ratings server?

Any suggestions?

What I’m seeing in the logs is that it goes to ‘ready to submit’ status then a few seconds later goes back to ‘not validated’. Are you maybe doing a ‘save’ in the edit form or switching sections, either of which would set it back to ‘not validated’ status.

Otherwise, I don’t know what’s going on, but I validated it manually and it looks ready to go now, at least for now.

Next time, send details including the event ID in email. This is not intended to be a support forum.

Thanks. And to answer your question: None of the above. I just hit the “Validate” button and wait for the several seconds to reload. I am aware that a save or switch section changes the status. I did not do that.

This happens on a weekly basis (as I upload 4 tournaments online every week for ICC) , and has been for quite some time. I’ve had times where it would take 3 or 4 validations before it gives me the “ready to submit” status. I’ve seen others having the same issue from other social media sites.

What I’ve found to do is to go through the normal steps, save, validate, and go on to the next tournament (in MY case). When I return to edit the next tournament, I find that it does return the “ready to submit” status.

There are times, however, that after validating, there will be another error. You have to look for that error, and fix it.

On my new laptop computer, sometimes buttons seem to get pressed all on their own, especially if the cursor is hovering over it. I’ll be thinking about whether I want to revise a post, and before I can decide, it has already been posted. This may be a setting issue.

Validations are REALLY slow, when I validated that event by hand, it took nearly 5 minutes. A really big one would take much longer.

This is a result of the new membership system, the ‘live’ membership data is on another server and it takes a second or more to query it across the net for each player. We have a recent copy of the membership data on the internal server, but it can be 12 hours out of date, or occasionally up to 24. We’re looking into ways to improve the validation time, but so far none of them have seemed promising.

BTW, does anybody act on the demographic information summary at the end of the validation report these days? We’re considering dropping it.

The demographic request for things like e-mails is something I ignore. I do still like the alerts for players out of the normal age range for the event.

There are no plans to eliminate the checks for possible ID issues based on things like age and ratings comparisons, which I have likened to the Sesame Street “One of these things is not like the others” segment.

However, things like an email address are not really necessary for rating an event. Before the membership system changeover, TDs were responsible for over 20% of memberships processed, I don’t know what percentage they are today, I suspect less, but mainly due to COVID-19 limitations on in-person events.

I haven’t submitted a tournament for rating since the Phase 1 launch, but before that I would submit membership updates to supply missing information such as mailing addresses and unknown gender.

I would do the same.

Under the old system, about 20% of memberships were entered by TDs; until OTB events rebound, I suspect that far fewer memberships will be coming from TDs.

I haven’t tried to use the new system as a TD would, does it permit member data updates without doing a renewal? If not, then the missing demographic information summary isn’t very useful.

Civi-CRM has better facilities for giving members control over their own membership data, though they have to register for access with a unique email address. I do not know how many members have registered for access through Civi-CRM.

Seems to me something should be done about this “unique email address” business. I’m sure many organizers have their personal memberships and their affiliates under the same email address. And several members of one family may share the same email address. And a scholastic coach (especially K-6) may use the same email address for several students.

Perhaps, if somebody tries to log in with a non-unique email address, the screen should present a list for the user to choose from.

Bad security idea, places that have tried it have had MAJOR problems.

Affiliates don’t have separate logins any more, so I don’t think having the same email address for an affiliate is a problem now. But I’m not part of the operations loop, so I’m not 100% sure.

Well HOW would we “act” on the demographic summary at the end of the validation report as TDs no longer have the ability to edit anything in member’s accounts except
at renewal.
