Which rating used by CCA events?

if i play in one of the CCA events (world open, etc) which rating will they use? i read somewhere that they use the highest rating if multiple ratings exist. so, if my established regular rating is 1780 and my quick rating is 1850 based on 15 games will i be able to play in the under 1800 section, or will my quick rating be used and i’ll have to play in the under 2000 section?

it makes a big difference in my decision to play or not - expense of hotel, flight, etc offset by possible winnings in the under 1800, but i dont think i’d win much in the under 2000 section. thanks.

Bill would have to answer that one himself, but I really don’t think that’s what was meant. The wording goes back well before “Quick Chess,” and referred to FIDE, Canadian, or other foreign ratings. Send a query to the e-mail on his web page.

It doesn’t refer to quick ratings or correspondence ratings. It is used to make sure an international FIDE master doesn’t come in with a sandbagged USCF rating.

They also are referring to using their CCA minimum ratings if it is higher than your USCF rating. If you have won significant money, they will give you a rating floor to keep you from winning big in an U1800 and then losing at little tournaments until you are U1800 again.
