The Russian web site chessnews.ru posted an interview with Kirsan Ilyumzhinov in which he says the next world championship match will be held in the US in October 2016. He mentioned New York, Los Angeles and Chicago as possible sites and said he had discussions with sponsors.
He said there is also a 50 percent chance that the March 2016 candidates tournament will also be held in the US.
interesting that St. Louis, given its recent prominence, is not on the list.

Might it have something to do with Rex supporting Gary in the last FIDE election?
Kirsan made the point that the sponsors of the Candidates get to choose the eighth entrant as a wild card.
Caruana and Nakamura are already seeded.
But Wesley So would be the natural invitee if the US does host.
Having a championship in the US in October of 2016 seems an odd time and place. The match will get very little mainstream US coverage. It will be lost amid the sports coverage of the baseball playoffs and World Series, the weekly NFL games, the start of the NHL and the NBA, and NCAA football. ESPN will probably be doing reruns of the summer 2016 Poker extravaganza in Las Vegas. Fox and Univision will likely expand their coverage of soccer. In addition, there will be the cacophony of the presidential and congressional elections which will eat up all available media space. The World Chess Championship will be at best a niche internet phenomenon, paid more attention to in Europe than anywhere else, unless a Chinese player makes it to the final match versus Carlsen.
I will be paying much more attention to the NCAA basketball March Madness and the Pittsburgh Penguins than to chess. The candidates tournament won’t be noticed until I see some games and a report on the event in May in New in Chess magazine.
Eor.
When it comes to either having it in the USA or not I would much rather have it in the USA this go around. You will be confronted with what you said on TV any October or March, that will not disappear. I would rather watch the world finals in chess than a football or hockey game myself. I guess it is what you prefer. I can watch a football game the other 15 weeks. It is not like it falls on the NFL playoffs or the Super Bowl.

Hope it’s NY. I was there for 1990 and 1995. Saw Kasparov sacrifice his queen in 1990,
Hope it’s St. Louis. Great playing site.

No announced venue = huge skepticism. Show me, and forgive me for not holding my breath.
Karjakin will be the next chess world champion. His chances are pretty high
