This week’s game comes from the Colorado Springs Chess Club’s “Player’s Choice” night in July. Typically, the 1st Tuesday of the month is Speed Chess (G5). The 2nd Tuesday is USCF-rated Quads (G30). The 3rd Tuesday is Quick-rated Swiss (G20). The 4th Tuesday is “Something Different,” like simuls, thematic events, bughouse, lectures, etc. When a month ends with a 5th Tuesday, the club lets the attendees decided what kind of chess they would like to play.

Gunnar Anderson and Isaac Martinez wanted rated Quads. However, we had an odd number of players, and with myself sitting out, we still did not have enough players for everyone to play in a Quad since it requires a multiple of 4. So, we created one USCF-rated Quad and an unrated Swiss…
