I’ve recently started looking for a chess to attend in Boston since returning home from college in Western Mass and have been somewhat stymied so far. I’ve found a few outside of the city, including one in Waltham that was attending until my schedule changed, but haven’t been able to find any non-academically affiliated chess clubs in the city. Perhaps one of these clubs would serve my purposes (Harvard or MIT or BU) but in attempting to contact these clubs the responses I’ve garnered have been lack-luster to say the least. Is there a club that for some reason I’ve missed or is the scene pretty tame in Boston? If the latter, what kind of steps could I take to personally start a club in Boston with all the accoutrement?
The Boylston Chess Club in Davis Square is what you’re looking for. Yeah, it’s in Somerville, but it’s only a stone’s throw from the Red Line. Action several days out of the week, nearly every week of the year. Enter the next $10 Open and see what you think.
