Caruana’s tie-breaks were better than Oparin’s. He’s in.
It’s worth noting that this is the fourth Candidates in a row that he has qualified for. He was also the reserve (backup) Candidate in 2014.
Bobby Fischer played in for three Candidates stages. Sam Reshevsky qualified for three but only played in two. Wesley So and Hikaru Nakamura played in one each.
