Chess In Ferragudo, Portugal??
My aunt and I will be spending a month in Winter, 2016 in a house in Ferraugudo. It’s a stones throw from Gibraltar. Does anyone know of places in or near the town to play chess other than Gibraltar? Contacts with the Portuguese Chess Federation perhaps? Thanks.
Go to www6.chessclub.com/resources/club_directory/ and you can look up clubs in a number of countries. This is apparently related to ICC somehow. It listed 11 clubs in Portugal, but I have no idea on the geography of the country and its cities. Also, you might consider clubs in Spain. Some of the cities might be closer than Gibraltar to where you are going to be at in Portugal. There was a listing for Alicante Spain and for El Ejido [Almeria] Spain. I think one of those is along the coast of Spain between Gibraltar and Portugal. Again I must state that I really don’t know the geography and city locations. Gilbraltar to Malaga Spain is about 2 hours, but I think Portugal to Gibraltar is at least 3 times that. As your request indicates you are looking for something much closer. Sevilla Spain is easily closer to Portugal than Gibraltar. I believe there is a club there that meets Friday Nights, and it isn’t far from Dos Hermanas.

Thanks very much. I do hope to drive to Sevilla and Cordoba to look at the Moorish architecture. Perhaps the more serious problem, especially for my aunt, will be watching telecasts of Montreal Canadiens games.
There is a club listed in a town about 20 miles away from where we’ll be. Again, thanks.
