Club poll

This is a poll about clock settings at your local club.

Just curious what the more common time controls and clock setting your club uses.

  1. Whats the most common time control at your club.
  2. Chronos: is the LED lights prefered to be on or off?
  3. Chronos: is the beep on or off.

-at the club I go to, both are on, and the most common time control is G/15 with delay/5.

  1. G/30 D/5
  2. LED On (a few that turn it off)
  3. Beep Off (Beep on every move is always turned off. There are a few who leave the beep at end on)

45/2, SD/1
lights on (usually)
sounds on (usually)

non-rated serious
G/90 d5 (G/60 d5 if a player is under 18 and requests it - we meet on Thursdays, a school night, and serious play starts at 8 PM)
Regular-rated
G/90 d5

Chronos - LED on, beep off, does not stop at end (double-flagging is possible)

Many players use the club’s Excaliburs or Precisions.

Our club is still very new, but the predominant preference is not to use clocks.

  1. Whats the most common time control at your club. 85/5
  2. Chronos: is the LED lights prefered to be on or off? No requirement by me, but most players have it on.
  3. Chronos: is the beep on or off. Off.

At our club the time control is usually 40/80, G/30. This can be clocked either “conventionally”, or 40/75 - 5 sec delay.

As for the clock lights and beepers, I don’t think we have standard rules on these - but typically, LEDs are on and beepers are off, other than at the point of the time control.

I think length of time controls has a lot to do with how long the club meets for, and if its a college/scholastic oriented club.

At the local university, its almost impossible to get players to do anything but speed chess (G/5 d5). I guess they just want to get as many games in as possible in the 3 or 4 hour time slot.
-disclaimer: I haven’t been to the university club in many years, but I did play the faculty advisor (that runs the university chess club) recently, and he still prefers 5min games.

At the Paducah chess club, they meet for 3 hours from 1pm to 4pm on Saturdays with the last couple players wrapping it up by 3:30. (its a very casual chess club).

I’m not sure there are many Chronos clocks in use here in Nebraska.

In fact, when I walked around the adult sections of the Cornhusker State Games last month, well over half the clocks were analog.

An ancient analog clock made an appearance toward the end of our club meeting last night. It was set for 20 minutes per side. Its main purpose was to ensure that we left the library multipurpose room before closing time.

Mondays
G/30 delay 5
Most everyone had Chronos with the LED on and beep off.

Wednesdays
g/80 d5
Chronos and analog.
