college campus

A local college in my area as our club to maybe him them start there on campus chess club with one of there students as president, what do u think our responsiblity should be to assist them, should they be members of the USCF? our should we just allow them to play casually…

Personal attack?

Why not have a spell check function for the forums?

No, but I deleted it anyway.

Hi,
Your post was a little hard to read – you might want to work on the grammar and spelling in the future. The “preview” function can be useful

But at any rate - to address your question - it depends on the arrangement with the College. We had a college club where members of the community could attend and were also allowed to hold club offices. The college did this to help provide continuity to the club. In turn, we provided USCF memberships to the students since we were in essence getting a site for free - we saw it as cheap rent.

Other clubs may have different needs.

Ahhhhh! Memories of one Robert J. Fischer. He could not spell, nor put a sentence together . Perhaps, another World Chess Champion in the making?
Always remember, the one you criticize today, you may work for tomorrow.

As a college student who is trying to start a chess club at my university I have a suggestion. The only local club in my area only meets on nights that I am unavailable to meet. I am not sure if this may be the case in your are, but look at it this way. With another club in your area it may generate more overall interest in chess. Also, perhaps it will offer more oportunities for tournaments in the area not only for individuals but for team competition between the two clubs. It could also give you both additional resources for tds and aids in the event that somone from one club is unavailable if you two have a friendly wroking relationship you could call on each other for assitance. It is always more beneficial to be friends the enemies. Besides, unless I am missing the information on here it looks like there are only 2 colleges that are affiliates right now. That is a sad state of affairs in the U.S. We need all the scholastic and college help we can get to encourage a future for the USCF in general. I would suggest that the college club either be an affiliate or at least allow your club to offer membership to its members. Anyway, just a few thoughts hope you can make sense out of them.
