Diagrams?

I’m a newbie to this board.

Why isn’t there a utility that would allow people to easily post a diagram? This is a chess forum, right?

I suppose someone could set up a position on a physical board, take a picture of it with a digital camera, then attach the image, but that seems like a lot of work.

There is a utility. It’s called ChessBase Light.

chessup.net/

There is no “simple” way to do it on this forum. And by simple I mean as in uploading a photo to Facebook. Our web site and forums are archaic.

Even better, chessvideos.tv/chess-diagram-generator.php. It hosts the diagrams so that you don’t have to.

If you post a diagram online as a graphic, you can link to it. For an example, you can see how a graphic is pulled in at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6784&p=96512&hilit=+#p96512

One option is to quote a post that already has a diagram in it and then modify it.

If you do a quote on this post you will see that the board below is defined by a bunch of dashes and piece abbreviations. (copied from the thread viewtopic.php?f=23&t=16369 )

Here’s one that will let you use FEN to specify the position directly in the URL: net-chess.com/chessboard.html

Chessup.net is my favorite, because the colors can be edited:
