Fischer movie trailer

“Pawn Sacrifice” finally has a trailer.

Tobey Maguire seems like a good choice to play Fischer, but not a great choice. Seems more meek or diminutive that would be ideal.

Ideal would have been Nicholas Cage, before he got too old for the part.

Too bad they couldn’t get someone famous, cool, and well-cast to play Spassky.

Doubtless the movie will take lots of liberties with the truth, while retaining its tag line - “Based on a true story”. But we gotta cut movies some slack.

Liev Schreiber is someone famous, cool, and well-cast. Check out his wiki page at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liev_Schreiber.

Naomi Watts must think he has something going for him.

I expect that they will show the “Searching for Bobby Fischer” movie on TV as a lead in to this movie. Seeing both might be a boost for chess in the fall. The Millionaire Chess people should be juiced that this new movie will be coming out just prior to their tournament in October. I wonder what product tie ins will take place? McDonald’s Happy Meal toys; a new chess piece with every meal? Cold War Klondike Bars? Cruises to Iceland?

Discount to a psycho ward?

Looking forward to this movie. I also just watched ‘Life of a King’ starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. which was pretty good. I am still disappointed that Heath Ledger was never able to complete his project of turning the book ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ into a movie. I think that had great potential.

Larry Evans says that he and Fischer used leather chess wallets they’d picked up somewhere to analyze for many years. In the trailer, Bobby uses a cheapo magnetic set similar to one that I bought recently (much as he did anachronistically in Damien Chapa’s biographical film of a few years ago).

Doesn’t exactly make me hopeful for a good film. Anyone know the real story?

Love the Cold War Klondike bars idea! Now to resist buying them this morning at the grocery…sigh.

Toby M. is better than I thought he’d be, judging from the trailer. Not sure how the overall film will be, but will give it a shot when it comes out.

Loved Cuba Gooding in that role! Excellent film based on another true story.
