Under which circumstances can a rating floor drop?
Browsing some people’s histories, I noticed two instances of the floor being a certain way for a while and then dropping below the floor all of a sudden, with a new floor 100 points below.
It’s understandable in some cases (maybe the players petitioned?), but I was wondering what the mechanism is.

As I understand it, the way to get your floor to drop is to petition.

You can write to the USCF and request that your floor be removed. Note that they are very unlikely to remove a “prize-based” floor, since this is an anti-sandbagging measure. It comes up most often with older players who have the 2200 “Life Master” floor, but are no longer playing at master strength.
Over the years there have been so many different definitions of floors and some floors have been lost or changed during past software conversions.
The only floor issues I’ve been alerted to with the new programming deal with OLM’s and their 2200 floors. I should be able to resolve that this weekend when we do a rerate and cut the April Supplement.
