I’m a little confused. Is this ICC with a new name or something?

ICC bought the old “us chess live” and another server and merged them as a “family friendly” server called World chess live.
Ok, so they’re owned by ICC, but it’s not actually ICC then? It’s a whole new thing? I’m just trying to figure out if this 6 months free for USCF members gets people into ICC, or just a new server that happens to be owned by the same people.

Here’s an excerpt from an email I received from Joel Berez explaining it:
In the past year, ICC (the company, not the service) has acquired both Chess Live and World Chess Network, merging them into a new service called World Chess Live (WCL).
WCL is a separate service with its own membership, pricing, atmosphere, rules, etc. While ICC is the “professional service”, WCL is supposed to be the “family-friendly service”, especially well suited for kids and more casual (but still reasonably serious) chess players. I’d expect the average rating there to mirror USCF’s, while ICC’s is somewhat higher.
Our agreement with the USCF to sponsor the Grand Prix [and Junior Grand Prix], run online GP (and quick-rated) tournaments, and to give six months of free membership is strictly for the WCL service.
Thanks for the clarification.
does this mean if you join WCL that you can get a discount on the ICC?

No. WCL and ICC memberships are completely separate.
