Hi. I noticed that chesslive as part of my membership of uscf has chessfm and thats part of icc correct? Are they connected or are they the same? Thanks.
I’m not sure what you mean by ‘chesslive as part of my membership’. If you’re referring to World Chess Live, they’re offering a six month trial membership to USCF members as a marketing tool, but it isn’t a defined ‘USCF member benefit’.
However, it is true that WCL and ICC are run by the same organization, though for the most part they’re separate.
Thanks for clearing that up. I mainly wanted to follow the state champion tournament yesterday but didn’t see coverage on world chess live and I don’t have a membership to icc so that’s why I was wondering.
WCL is sort of ‘ICC-light’.
WCL has more of a family (kids) and educational focus while ICC attracts the serious chess player. There will always be some overlap, notably for ChessFM. However, WCL has USCF quick rated tournaments, Polgar University, superior language (profanity) filters and other upcoming features that ICC does not have.

WCL also seems like a best kept secret. I had an account on ICC, Gameknot, and Itsyourturn just so I could play chess online, but now that I have joined the WCL site I wish that I had done so earlier. Everyone should give it a try…I’m glad that I did.

I’ve been a member of ICC and WCL (at different times) and also played on FICS. I can’t say WHY I like WCL better than ICC or FICS – there’s not a clear reason – I just do.
What I really DISLIKE is Yahoo. Somebody there needs to get a clue how to run a chess server.
