Grouper partnership with USCF? Free memberships for seniors?

Hello,

Sorry if this is the wrong place, but the site won’t let me post to chess clubs…
My local club was approached by Grouper via email and over the phone regarding a partnership with USCF wherein they would pay local and national dues for our 65 year old and above members. They are claiming it is through medicare advantage and supplemental plans as playing chess is good for health. Does anyone have any knowledge of or experience with this? Is it something I should pass on to our local community club? We have a local club that meets weekly in the area with quite a few senior members this might help if it’s legitimate.

Thanks,

It’s legitimate, and I received a rebate on my membership for last year. The senior has to complete something online showing their chess activity, but it’s not terribly onerous.

This is only connected to Medicare advantage coverage. It will not work for someone on regular Medicare, or someone still working under creditable coverage.

And don’t count on this continuing for long. Medicare advantage plans are cutting back as they have spent so much on marketing they are not as profitable as the insurance companies want.

It’s also under supplemental plans that have grouper. just saying.
