How recent must experience be for Local TD?

I was a TD back in the late 80s and early 90s. I know I directed and assisted in enough events to qualify (assisted in one tournament that was around 50 players by itself) to take the test for Local TD. Would that experience be considered too old to be relevant? I might have problems proving that I had the experience (though I’m sure the TD I assisted will remember – he’s now an NTD). Other than things getting MUCH easier with the pairing software now available, things haven’t changed much.

I don’t think I’d have any problem passing the test, I have an established rating, etc.

Check your MSA for the events that the USCF has in their computer. You can claim other events if you provide the documentation, no matter how old. When you have it all together contact Larry Pond at the USCF office.

Thanks!

None of the events I worked on are on their computer. I’m fairly sure the TD I assisted will remember the events, but I have no clue where to find any documentation for the ones I directed, they were so long ago.

I used old cross tables and articles in my state publication for my proof when I applied for an upgrade many years ago.

That’s similar to my situation. What I did was just apply for club again and direct a few tournaments until I had the 50. I’m glad I did it that way since the 5th edition rulebook is significantly different in some places from the old red cover I was going frmo before! Good luck!
