If you are running an on-line event..

As we have more on-line events being submitted for rating, I am quite certain we will see an increase in cases where players are being accused of cheating in these events.

If you as a TD are running an on-line event you really need to know and understand that platforms anti-cheating system. Pretty much all of the platforms have some sort of analysis package built in for monitoring cheating. If you are going to accuse someone of cheating in an event you had best make sure the platform tools are used and used correctly, or you can get yourself into a problem very quickly.

Remember that ethics complaints must have supporting evidence. The Ethics Committee is not an investigatory body. A complaint that just says “the player was cheating” without evidence will be hard to sustain.

US Chess is working to get an “under the hood” look at the fair play systems of the various online play platforms. We have been able to do that with chess.com already and are working with others. As we complete each one we will issue a statement.

the chess.com statement is here new.uschess.org/administration/ … -us-chess/

We’ve added an ‘online event’ checkbox to the tournament upload form, that way TDs don’t have to check that box for every section.
