Last round of Candidates right now

In a few hours, Fabiano Caruana may be Carlsen’s challenger…or it may be Karjakin, Mamedyarov, or even Ding Liren.

In addition to the official site, free coverage is streaming right now on YouTube youtube.com/watch?v=Da0DBTizEro

Caruana is looking very good vs. Grischuk…in mutual time pressure.

Caruana had a good position the other day and slipped to a draw. I don’t think a draw will hurt him today. Hoping that he wins so that Rex will through big dollars at the WC and get it moved to St. Louis.

Grischuk-Caruana 0-1. Caruana wins by a full point & will be challenging Carlsen.

I hope the mainscream press picks up on this too. :smiling_imp:

Caruana wins. Nice.

A friend and I were chatting last night. We figure that for ten to twelve million, Rex could probably get the match moved from London to St. Louis…

A long grind. The commentary by Jan Gustaffson and Peter Svidler on Chess24 was hilarious. Discovered that it is a “fact” that dolphins are evil. :open_mouth: They talked about George Clooney and his vodka investment, the difference in quality of the movies “Interstellar” and “Gravity”, and the personalities of some of the players. Good lesson in endgame strategy, including their disagreements with the computer.

Of course, this will tournament will cause barely a ripple in mainstream US media. Caruna will be the first American playing for the World Championship since Robert J. Fischer. (Don’t count Kamsky vs. Karpov during the mess over who held the “real” title)

I really enjoy Gustaffson’s commentary.

This could be the last time Rex, in this lifetime, has the opportunity to see the WCC in St. Louis at his club. And he was the one who put up the funds to get Caruana to return to US Chess.

Some early coverage of Caruana’s win:

Sounds like London will host the match, though.

I would definitely count Kamsky. I would have to draw the line at Stan Vaughan, though.
