If the time limits in each round of a tournament are not all the same, is there any special requirement for reporting the results on the internet? I am thinking specifically of a tournament in which the first round was G/60 but the rest of the rounds were G/75. The first game was shorter to make it easier to schedule both a later start time and a lunch break for the players, and most of the games in that round are gross mismatches anyways. There was only a place for one time limit when reporting the tournament. Is it ok to put G/75 (the shorter games were never intended to be dual-rated) or does this tournament require special handling?
See secure.uschess.org/TD_Affil/faq.php
In general the slowest time control used for any round is the one that determines if the event is dual rated or only regular rated, so it is the one you should put in the rating report.
There are two exceptions to this:
One is if ANY round is faster than Game/30 it MUST be submitted and rated as a separate event/section from any rounds that are G/30 or slower.
The other is that if the event is FIDE rated you must supply detailed information on the time control for every round. Also, if there are multiple schedules you must indicate which games were played at which time control. This is because FIDE has rules regarding the time control and number of rounds per day that may cause some rounds or games not to be FIDE ratable or may affect whether norms are earned.
Thanks.
I must have overlooked that document
They’re called ‘frequently asked questions’ for a good reason. (At times, though, I’ve thought they should really be named ‘seldom read answers’. One TD, who will go unnamed here, has asked several questions in the last few months that were all fully answered in the FAQ.)
