Nakamura beats Fabiano in 14 moves!

He still has to play Gelfand, who is 1/2-point ahead of him in first.

Hikaro is setting himself up to play Magnus, should Magnus get the title.

Remember! Bobby J. never beat Boris until Iceland.

All the best, Joe

Challenger to the World Champion winner of Anand - Carlsen match will be determined in the 8-player Candidates tournament in 2014.

These will be the 8 Candidates players (note that the ratings used were average for the year ending in July 2013):

  1. Anand (IND) or Carlsen (NOR) - loser of the match
  2. Kramnik (Rus) - World Cup
  3. Andreikin (Rus) - World Cup
  4. Aronian (Arm) - Rating
  5. Karjakin (Rus) - Rating
  6. Topalov (Bul) - Grand Prix
  7. Mamedjarov (Aze) or Grischuk (Rus) or Caruana (Ita) - Grand Prix
  8. Organizer’s wildcard - has to be rated 2725+ in July 2013

The only way left for Hikaru Nakamura is the organizer’s wildcard. Organizers who so far announced that they are bidding for the Candidates tournament are Khanty-Mansiysk (Russia) and Kozlodoi (Bulgaria). It appears, the quickest way for Hikaru to challenge Magnus, should he beat Anand and get the title, is for USCF to quit FIDE, and issue a direct challenge like in the good ol’ days.

Sometimes chess players have limited vision, by reading written rules. Rules are often changed to meet new circumstances, that were not considered before. Bids could appear from anywhere. Anything could happen.

Think outside your box, and you might make better moves. That is true for anyone.

All the best, Joe

Once you have a 2200 rating floor, there is no way out of the box.

Some people put reality first and then hope for more. Other people ignore reality and then expect more.

We should have a tea party about that. Your place, or mine?

All the best, Joe

Not if we get rid of the ridiculous 2200 life master floor! Do players who constantly hit that 2200 floor really like have a rating that is considered to be a joke by most players? I would rather have a 2000 rating that is respected then a 2200 rating that people saw as a joke!

BTW Anyone know the last time a 2700+ resigned on move 14?

Just curious…

Sounds like Alice’s place would be the best.

Um, this did not happen. The game lasted over 30 moves.

I can’t believe something on the internet (and this forum in particular) is incorrect.

ok: LOST BY MOVE 14.

Joe, this is certainly noteworthy, but why did you post it here instead of in All Things Chess?

This forum gets more hits. (or it used to…)

As I noted, much of this thread was from Wonderland.

Lost by move 14, with Caruana having indicated, “…after this there wasn’t a lot of sense in continuing playing.” according to http://chess-news.ru/en/node/13497

And this should be a very instructive game for teachers to demonstrate what, “taking with the wrong pawn,” means.

Was I that far off?

All the best, Joe

Not at all Sam, er…Joe.

(Some people can’t see a bigger picture, and have innocent fun with it. )

I already have a $100.00 bet on the outcome of a Magnus-Nakamura match. (I was rooting for Vishy until this game…)

All the best, Joe

Present value?

I’ve relocated this topic to the “All Things Chess” forum.
