Nakamura knocked out by Covid

An undisclosed number of players were eliminated from the World Blitz Championship.
One was Hikaru Nakamura.
He tested negative at first but then positive when he needed a test in order to fly home. He expressed concern for his opponents.

He now indicates he is stranded in Poland.
He tweeted January 3: “Is there anybody out there who happens to know people at the State Dept. or the US Embassy in Warsaw who can help me with figuring out the appropriate steps for getting out of Poland once my quarantine is up since nobody seems to be able to give me proper information.”

I googled US Embassy Warsaw and got a page which showed a phone number. I would think that would be the first thing GM Nakamura would try, but your post indicates he is looking for someone who can help him reach them. So either he didn’t think of that (highly unlikely) or he tried that and still failed to get through.

His Tuesday tweet said “hopefully” he would be “home in a week.”
It contained a composed photo of him with a sign that read “Will gambit for ride home.”

The Wall Street Journal is running a story on Naka’s situation. That may not have any impact on how soon it will be resolved, though.
