Nigel Short on Susan, Paul and Judit

In his column in the just released issue of New In Chess, Short has some rather pithy comments about Susan Polgar and Paul Truong. He mentions that Truong is her husband and business manager and that he’s been discharged in bankruptcy twice. Short also makes light of the fighting pirates and sharks stories Truong has circulated over the years.

But, as to Judit, Short writes, “In stark contrast, her younger sister, Judit Polgar, has never been in need of bombast and hyperbole to support a fragile ego, preferring always to let her magnificent results speak for themselves.”

I can’t help but wonder if Short has just left himself open to a $25 million law suit. :sunglasses:

Several USCF members have asked if I have a link to the NIC piece by Short. I don’t. I subscribe to NIC via the NIC android app on my tablet and I can’t copy or send copies from that. Might I suggest subscribing? It’s a little pricey, but, IMO, worth it.

I too subscribe using the iPad app. I love the articles like Short’s. However the annotated games are totally beyond my understanding. In addition, the top GMs seem to all be playing the same fashionable variations which gets a bit old. It is also abit humiliating. Such comments as “black is clearly better” or “Ne5 wins immediately” are incomprehensible to an average player like me. I almost wish I had gotten the print edition so I could play the games over in an engine. Or maybe the app could be enhanced with an engine.

I love the same types of comments from Fritz analysis (“…and the rest is just technique”). I enjoy enough of the feature articles and cafe gossip that it makes the publication very worth while. It would indeed be nice if they had a playing module as part of their app.

Apparently there is a bit of a war going on between Nigel Short and Polgar/Truong with Polgar stating that she has blocked Short on Twitter.
