Krush just won. Women officially 2-0 at this point.
For the men, Akobian drew, Onischuk’s opponent isn’t long for this world, and Kamsky and Robson both have very “grindable” positions. If I were forced to make a specific prediction, I’d say 3-1 looks like a likely final score.
As for the women, Krush and Abrahamyan have booked wins, and Zatonskih is completely winning as well. Goletiani can do no worse than draw her game, barring some catastrophe, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see her play on (1R+4P ending where Goletiani has the better rook, and no real risk of losing).
I can’t watch any more of the games right now…this whole work thing is really interfering with my chess spectating.
Both teams win big! Very good chances for medals.
Well, next up will be either Russia or Armenia. Russia is pretty much a lock for a medal, and the other two probably come from the countries of Armenia, USA, China, Ukraine and Azerbaijan. I doubt that Germany or the Phillipines can keep up the pace.
I’m thinking the US won’t get either of those teams next…but I could be completely wrong.
