I’m trying to determine if I’ve met the 50 player minimum or not yet before I bother the office in asking for the local TD exam. So far I’ve been the Chief TD for 2 tournaments and Assistant TD/Chief Assistant TD at another tournament. See below for links to the MSA reports for those tournaments.
It depends on how you count the numbers. For the tournament where I was Assistant TD/Chief Assistant TD. I’m listed as Assistant TD overall and as Chief Assistant TD for one of the sections.
Tournament #1 has 23 rated players.
Tournament #2 has 14 rated players.
Tournament #3 has 38 rated players or 6 in just the one section.
In both #1 and #2 there was also a non-rated section. If we include those, then I’m easily over 50 players as there were 9 and 12 additional players for a total of 21 additional. I’m guessing though, that these don’t count as they weren’t rated and obviously don’t show up on the MSA report.
If I need to wait for another tournament, then that’s fine. I’d just like to know where I currently stand.
The issue is whether you can claim the b1 credit as only an Assistant TD.
Tourney #1 fulfills the a1 requirement and Tourney #2 fulfills the a2 requirement. a3 is not fulfilled, but you are allowed to use a substitute (b1-b4) for it.
b1 is “Satisfactory Performance as a TD at either a category D1 or D2 tournament can be used [as a substitute]”
If “TD” is meant only as a chief or chief assistant TD, then you don’t meet the criteria, as your number is only 23 + 14 + 6 = 43 (unrated don’t count). If “TD” also means assistant TDs, then you do meet the criteria (23 + 14 + 38 = 75)
I’m not sure what the TD cert rules were intended to be, so I think the only way to find out is to ask them.
“Satisfactory performance as a TD at either a Category D1 or D2 tournament can be used as a single one-time substitute for a requirement (a3) category D tournament.”
This does not require being a chief or chief assistant and merely refers to a TD at a tournament.
