Reinstatement of old TDs

I began directing tournaments in 1965 and was active directing all types of events in the Pittsburgh Chess Club until drafted in 1970. While stationed in Germany 78-81 I directed numerous small USCF events for the European Chess District and also served as Team for the US Army Chess Team (85-87), and twice served as the US Armed Forces Chess Team Captain at the NATO Championships. When TD certification came in I had already directed several events. I applied for the USCF certification , and I still have my first TD card signed by Martin Morrison with no expiration date. I have seen the new pairing software and read up on the rule changes since I dropped out of USCF chess in 1988. I want to know if there is some short cut to getting reinstated so I can start directing events in October. Anyone out there have any help? It looks like I would have it easier if I was a barred TD!

Dave:

As you did start as a director in 1965 then left in 1988, very sure they would not have records back to 1965. Did have that problem, as was a club tournament director from 1985 - 1987, as the years 1987 - 1997 was not a active USCF member – they did have my records when re-joining back in 1997. Very sure they would have your records, as you stop being a director in 1988.

The question needs to be asked what was your certification level. The only life certification would be a national director or international arbiter. You should call not email Larry Pond, he would be the only person with the correct answer to this question.

Dave,

Yep, contact Larry Pond.

In the past we simply looked up what the old certification level was of a TD that wants to be reinstated. We then let that TD take the appropriate exam to get certified under the new system.

If Larry does not have that list I (as TDCC chair) would need to check my old records for that info.
