I saw a blitz tournament where both players played both colors each round. Can this be done with SwissSys 6? If so how?
When you set up the tournament you get to a screen (section set up) that asks you to select “style.” Click on the down arrow and select “double.” You can also set up the tournament and change the style choice before round 1 by clicking on the “setup” button on the top of the screen (3rd one from the left) and choosing “current section set up…”
But before submitting the tournament you need to convert it so that it will upload properly. Swiss-sys has the ability to do that. You lose the exact order that the games were played in but it works. We just did one and after the conversion process I had to go in and armchair edit one of the games to a Forfeit win but it was a lot faster than reproducing everything manually.
Yes, as I remember from a much older version of SwisSys, you’re out of luck if one of the two games was a win and the other was a forfeit win (loser was so disgusted he dropped out of the tournament after his initial loss).

And with WinTD you set it up as two games per round and expand the results entry (making a seperate entry for each game so you still use only the W, L and D keys). It will keep the games in the order they are reported and handle forfeits normally. WinTD has a 12-round limit, which is a limit of six 2-game rounds.
We only accept one result per round, but you can have players A and B play each other in both rounds 1 and 2, with colors reversed.
SwisSys also has a limit of (around) 14 rounds in an event.
That means an 8 player double round robin would just BARELY fit.
Accepting two results per round gets very complicated because we have lots of possible results for any player for each game, well beyond just win, lose or draw. You also have to deal with forfeits, byes and inconsistent results.
There are no plans to accept two results per round.
FWIW, a second way to handle this is to put each player in twice. For example, suppose you have a 10 player round robin event. Player A becomes both pairing #1 and pairing # 11, etc. This has the advantage of getting around the 14 round limit (at least for events with fewer than 14 or so players), it has the disadvantage that you can’t get standings from SwisSys.
According to Thad Suits, author of SwisSys, several years ago it was updated to handle events up to 24 rounds long.

This can be fixed once the tournament is changed into a single round, i.e. 5 round double converted into a 10 round single. Hand editing the cross table for a forfeit win solves the problem. Had this happen a couple weeks ago when a player was late and lost the first game on forfeit. His opponent got a 2-0 but it was fixed before submission so only one game was rated.

Sort of amazing that he who shall not be named hasn’t commented on the last sentence above!
