System Outage Advisory

We will be moving two servers from Crossville to another server facility this week, so we will be shutting the ratings system server down this evening at around 10 PM central time. We expect to be back online by 10 AM Thursday morning.

This will also shut down entering new tournaments into the ratings system and it will shut down entering upcoming national events.

Tomorrow’s weekly rerate will be performed after the move, so there will be no updates to the
ratings and tournaments on MSA after today until after the transfer is complete, but MSA should remain available.

This should not affect membership processing, as it was moved to a different server facility in July of 2020.

Moving these servers will give us more reliable systems, we’ve had numerous power outages in Crossville over the years due to a variety of reasons, including weather.

The server transfer was completed ahead of schedule and everything appears to be operating correctly.

Please let the office know via email of any problems you encounter.

This week’s rerate willl be run later today, it only covers a few months.

I’m sure it’s just a coincidence, but I just now tried to process a membership and I seem to be stuck. I received a receipt for the charge, so it got my money, but it can’t seem to wrap it up. I’m stuck on the billing page.

There’s a report of a problem with the home page site (new.uschess.org), that could be impacting membership processing.

This appears to be completely independent of this week’s maintenance tasks, and if it is a denial-of-service attack US Chess may not even be the intended target, as other Linode-hosted sites are down, too.

uschess.org and new.uschess.org both appear to be back up.

And the office tells me my membership went through, even though I received a “time out” error.
