Today Nakamura defeated GM Giri in the 1st round of the four-player double round robin Unive “Crown Group” Tournament being held in the Netherlands. Other participants are the current World’s Women’s Champion GM Hou Yifan and the ex European Champ GM Tiviakov who drew each other today.
Nakamura as Black drew Tiviakov today and Hou drew Giri. Nakamura leads tourney with 1.5/2

I find it refreshing, as a moderator, that someone is posting these results in our Chess discussion forum. It’s about time.

Nakamura’s recent collapse at London is not that bizarre: he was desperately trying to win points, and the World Cup scoring structure makes a terrible result potentially irrelevant. So the vagaries of Elo (+/- 30 points) are not that big a deal, however much they may shake up the world rankings.
But kibitzing our top players is precisely what we should be encouraging here. Chess is more interesting than meta-chess.
