I am in the middle of a move, and have my WIN TD program guide packed up.
I’m trying to update my rating supplement, and have a question. I got the June Golden database, renamed the old TARATSUP.DBF file, copied the new TARATSUP.DBF file over, and everything was fine.
However, I can’t remember how to do the July update. I got the files downloaded, went to FILE/USCF Directory and set it to the folder where I have the files, and then went to FILE/Update USCF database. It gave me a message that TARATSUP.dbf file was not found, and asked if it should create one.
Question: should I move the 3 July files into the folder where the current TARATSUP.dbf file is, or is there another process?
I had the same problem with my new Vista laptop. I discovered that even though I set the location of the USCF database I got that same error mesage you got. I solved my problem by resetting the USCF database location and deleting the the taratsup.dbf file WinTD created.
But wouldn’t deleting the taratsup.dbf file mean that you would only end up with the July ratings, and not the entire ratings anymore? It makes sense to rename or delete the taratsup.dbf file when you are importing a Golden Database. (Obviously you can’t lose anything; you are replacing what you had on your computer with the current version of everything!) I’m not sure that I understand the logic of deleting the taratsup.dbf file in this case. Where is Win TD going to keep the data from everyone who did not play in the July supplement while the monthly supplement is imported?
In my case I saw that WinTD created its own tatatsup file (for that month only) in addition to my already existing USCF data base. It created this new different file when it could not find the existing USCF taratsup file. I deleated the newly created WinTD taratsup file (so there would be no confusion) and reset WinTD to the already existing USCF taratsup file. I can’t say if this would work in your case, as I was not dealing with the Golden data base. I am using a data base (USCF) that has been around and updated since the beginning of time (or close to it). I also assumed my problem was due to Billy Gates’s new Vista operating system (it was not?!).
Perhaps a quick note to the WinTD guys (see their site) might be of greater help to you.
