WinTD Default Tiebreak Order

When creating a new tournament in WinTD, I’ve noticed that the tiebreak order does not match the default USCF order specified in the rule book. Is there are any way to change this default in WinTD? I’m surprised that it doesn’t match. Did this order change in the 6th edition by any chance - seems unlikely. The order is similar, but not identical. In the grand scheme of things it won’t matter that much as the first method is the same in both. It’s easy enough to change, but it’d be nice not to have to do it every time. It’s also easy to forget.

For comparison, here is the USCF order as specified in the 6th edition (34E):

  1. Modified Median
  2. Solkoff
  3. Cumulative
  4. Cumulative of Opposition

Here is the default order in WinTD:

Modified Median
Median
Solkoff
Sonneborn-Berger
Cumulative
Opponents Cumulative
and then several more, but it doesn’t matter at this point.

This is the list I see in the Tournament Info box when clicking on New Tournament from the File menu.

You may want to change your default preference set. When I bring up a new tournament it is IHSA team, modified median, solkoff, cumulative, opponent cumulative, etc.

Where is this done? I didn’t find anything related to tiebreaks under the Manage Preference Sets screen.

Tie break order is not in the general settings. It is part of the tournament information. You may specify tie break order when creating a new tournament or by using the “Edit Tournament Information…” command from the “File” menu for an existing tournament.

That’s my current understanding as well. I was wondering if there was a way to change the default that’s shown when creating a new tournament. I know I can change it that point. It’s just that I always have to change it. If it can’t be done, it’s not that big of a deal. It’s easy to change it.

I’m curious, though, how Jeff’s list is different than mine when creating a new tournament. How did you manage that?

When I change the tie-break sequence in a tournament and then save my preference set (making it my default), a new tournament comes up with that revised sequence as the new default. Even though tie-break order is not in the general settings, on WinTD 4.20 it seems to be saved in the preference set.

It saves the most recent set in the Windows registry and also saves the current one when you save the preferences. Usually, I use File–Save as Template… to use the structure of a previous tournament which overrides anything in the preferences with the specific settings of that tournament that I’m copying.
