30 day grace period for lapsed SafeSport Certification

We are starting to see TDs whose SafeSport certification is near lapsing or has lapsed.

If a TD’s SafeSport Certification is current but within 30 days of lapsing, this will be noted as an Alert during event validation. (That means no action has to be taken.)

If a TD’s SafeSport Certification has recently lapsed, there is a 30-day grace period during which this will also be noted as an Alert during event validation.

If a TD’s SafeSport Certification lapsed over 30 days ago, this is an error that cannot be overridden by the TD.

I am not sure what recertification class yo take. Not due until 2-25 so I have time

If you took the core course, a year later you can take the first refresher course, then in another year the second refresher course, and then the third refresher course. After that, I think you have to take the core course again.

On a related topic I am wondering if why it is that not everyone who has taken the Safe Sport training is not receiving the newsletter they put out. I know of at least one TD who doesn’t get it & did do the training. Happened to forward one to him & he let me know he had not received anything like this.

At one point I signed up my affiliate for the training, but ended up doing the training via the $1 USCF discount. It is possible that is why I get the newsletter & my TD friend does not. US Chess should look into this.

I never received a newsletter and do not recall a newsletter being mentioned when I signed up for and took the training in September 2023. Not sure what that is all about.

I did the training via the $1 USCF discount. I’m almost due for the renewal and I have not received any newsletters.

This is the first I’ve heard of a newsletter, I definitely haven’t gotten one.

I’d suggest contacting Melinda Matthews, the SafeSport Manager.
