How do I get the fact that I have my SafeSport Core Trained certificate added to my profile? Right now it says on there that I do not have any training yet. When I did the course, I downloaded a pdf of my certificate and can submit it to USCF, but is there a specific email or person to send it to?
Send it to membership@uschess.org. However, we also do not show you as a certified TD.
We currently have SafeSport data in several different locations. The primary place for it is in your membership record, which is why you should send a copy of the certificate to the membership department.
We are in the process of correcting some software issues that affect posting SafeSport data in membership records and has resulted in some member records not being updated correctly. We have some interim measures in place that should help with using the most recent SafeSport information when validating tournaments, but the membership system (which is where the information on your member dashboard comes from) will not be fully updated until after those software issues are resolved.
To become a TD contact tdcert-group@uschess.org and provide you ID, other information and the form found at Tournament Directors | US Chess.org to let them know you want to be a TD.
Remember in the SafeSport profile to include your membership ID in the spot for ID (not the federation’s group code) and to make the activity US Chess (not merely Chess). Also include your e-mail address.
You do not need to be a TD to take Safe Sport and the office might be waiting until SafeSport is completed before officially adding new TDs.
I can confirm that all new TDs must have SafeSport certification before their membership record is updated and they are added to the list of certified TDs, and the Club TD application form clearly states this requirement.
Thank you so much @nolan . I sincerely appreciate it. I just emailed it to them.
Thank you @jwiewel . I emailed them the completed US Chess Federation Club TD application form and a copy of my completed US SafeSport Trained certificate. I had been trying to figure this out for months, but the understanding didn’t hit me till this morning when I got a response from @nolan about the SafeSport Core training part. I will begin writing down the questions I have in my notes from reading the rule changes document back in April, and I have many more questions from reading the rulebook. My husband and his twin brother, who was a FIDE Arbeter at one point, are helping me with some things that I don’t understand, but there are specific differences with the US Chess Federation part that I know I will still need help with. Plus, they are usually very busy at the office and sometimes unavailable while I’m working on this full-time outside of my kids and want answers faster. Therefore, I’m so grateful to find and join this forum with all of you knowledgeable folks. Thanks again. Three years should be more than enough time for me to learn the steps I need to start taking now to be prepared for the renewal process.
You might want to see who’s running tournaments in the Milford CT area and see if you can volunteer as an assistant TD; directing a tournament is often a mixture of frenetic activity and sitting around waiting for a round to finish, though there’s almost always something that can be done during the lulls to get ready for the next busy period. (When I took my pastry course, the chef told us many times, “If you’re not working on anything right now, clean up your work area.” That’s good advice for many types of activities.)
Lots of interesting discussions take place during the quiet periods, and that’s a good time to talk about the process of directing events, how to deal with rules issues, practice pairing (both by hand and using whatever pairing program is available), etc.
I see that you show up in the list of Safe Sport trained TDs and that your MSA record lists you as a Club TD. Your MSA record itself does not yet show Safe Sport Trained but when I did my annual renewal last month it took almost three weeks to show up on my MSA record.
Her SafeSport certification now shows up on MSA.
