64 bit windows and chess programs

Hi all:
I’ve just found a good deal on a 64 bit dell computer. Has anyone had experience running 64 bit vista or windows 7 with Chessbase 10 or Fritz 9?
Thanks

My new laptop is a 64 bit system, running Vista Ultimate. I have ChessBase 10, Fritz 11 and Deep Rybka 3 all installed and running with no problem. I have a lot of other non-64 bit applications installed too and they all work fine. WinTD for example.

One thing I noticed in my Windows Explorer is that instead of a single folder “Program Files” there are two folders: “Program Files” and “Program Files (x86).” All the applications that are not native 64 bit seem to go in the latter folder. So it seems that there is a standard pre-set method in 64 bit Vista for dealing with all the older software.

Anyone try an engine match with a multicore CPU? Can you have each engine tied to a CPU and always thinking?
I have Fritz 8 and the UI when it launches the engines has no means to assign CPUs or allow it to always be thinking.

Some of the new Intel i7 chip sets behave like having 8 CPUs. It would be nice to do an engine match 4 CPUs vs 4 CPUs.

Does a newer version of Fritz or competing product have such features?

I could be mistaken, but isn’t that what Deep Fritz exists for?

I have been told by my external I.T. consultant (using a beta evaluation copy) that he’s tested the XP compatibility mode of Windows 7. He came away impressed. Hopefully this means Microsoft has learned a little something from Vista and ME. If it lives up to its’ billing, there shouldn’t be any problem running XP designed software in Windows 7.

Deep Rybka, Zappa Mexico, Deep Shredder all are excellent multi-core engines.

I have Deep Fritz 8. It’s not the engine but the engine match. The UI doesn’t seem to allow launching different engines bound to different CPU sets and have them always thinking.
