Chessbase 10 mega has arrived, but....

chessbase 10
Hello, I just purchased chessbase 10 mega. I am trying to get it to run on dual core 2.2 GHz, Vista business, and NVIDIA 8400. It crashes every time I start the program, before I can even get a chance to put the authorization code. Anyone else experiencing this problem. I have an older laptop with much lower processer speeds and worse video card with OS windows XP. I never use this 2nd computer anymore cuz it is slowed to a snails pace. Anyway, I tried CB 10 on the old comp with XP and it works fine. Presumably there must be some issue with Vista. Anyone with any ideas or similar experiences. I am in correspondance with Chessbase, but no solutions yet (live support would be nice, but I have to wait day to day for response to my email questions to their support service).

Since it works under Windows XP, how about running it in compatibility mode?

Click on the executable files to highlight them and then right-click. Then you can access the compatibility menu.

When I was deciding which to use, Chess Assistant or Chess Base, it boiled down to this, Chess Base wouldn’t work with Vista nor could I get it to work via compatibility. Not a problem with Chess Assistant though.

Later though, I finally trashed Vista and installed WinXP Pro as my OS. Just too many problems with Vista. :imp:

p.s. I did have a few emails exchanged with the Chess Base folks but the problem was never resolved.

This is of great concern to me. Never having gone past CB8, I just about decided to take the plunge and buy CB10 Mega. I’m still on XP for now, but also way overdue for a new computer. I don’t want to buy CB10 and run into Vista issues, and i dont want to keep an old desktop just for CB10.
Anybody else having these problems?

I have a Vista laptop with a Duel Core processor that is one year old.

I recently purchased CB 10 and installed it just last week.

I have experienced no problems whatsoever with the program. I also got the basic database and found that the new auto-database update to automatically add new games to the database, upgraded the games totally to the current date.

It could be that those having problems as described above may very well be having problems that are isolated to their particular situation and equipment.

I agree that the solution to those particular problems may very well be to set it up to run in an XP mode.

I have had no trouble running it under Vista Ultimate. Often these things can be due to outdated video drivers also. Check out DriverAgent.com. It might help.

Thanks for the reassurance. I’m really looking forward to buying CB10, it sounds awesome. I’ll probably get it in early autumn.

My computer is less than a month old…runs CB10 on Vista with no problems. Dell-Inspiron Laptop with AMD Turion | 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor.

Cheers

Just a further update - I’m also running CB on a UMPC that runs vista. This is, I think important, because the UMPC is a little more finicky with drivers, etc., and it still runs fine.

I ordered a 32GB USB drive from eCost at a decent price, and sync all my ChessBase databases to that from my main desktop. Then I can just plug it into the UMPC. Great for lectures and presentations using a projector.

It may be a problem with the Nvidia graphic drivers. I have a 7600GT, and can’t run Linux, other than Mandriva. :frowning:

I use WinXP though. I was just toying with linux a while back. Its very difficult but not impossible to install graphic drivers though a command line interface.
