Fritz 12 and Chess Power Pack

I purchased a copy of Fritz 12 from USCF. I also received a copy of Chess Power Pack which is a database of games. I’m supposed to be able to access this from Fritz. However when I try I find that the Chess Power Pack database is save  d as as .CBV file. Fritz will only search for .CBH, .CBF, .PGN, or .CTG files and will not show the Chess Power Pack. If someone has any suggestions as to what I’m doing wrong I would appreciate some help. The CPP instructions are for another program rather than Fritz.

If I recall correctly, a .CBV file is an archive file, i.e. a backup. You need to double click on the file’s icon to restore the database from the backup.

Well, that does not seem to work. It just asked me for a program to open the file. I identified Fritz as the program and it gives me an empty database. I’m sure this should work some how…

I have been searching online forums for this question and it seems like several people are having this same problem and I have yet to see an answer. That’s a shame. Chess Power Pack was developed by USCF so there should be some tech support.

Found it, well sort of, When I select “open database” it now gives me an option to select a file rather than just sending me to the Fritz database. I’m not sure why, when I started this process it would only allow me to access the Fritz database. Once I was able to put in an address I was able to select all datbases and find the Chess Power Pack. I’m sorry that I don’t know what changed in Fritz to allow me to see this now.

I don’t have either program but found this link which may be helpful.

It seems like to me that maybe you are trying to open the archive file directly when there is probably an
option in chessbase or fritz to restore and archive file which would change it into a format that the program would then see.

You probably needed to specify ChessBase as the program to open the ChessBase archive file (.CBV).

Put the Power Pack disk in your drive. Go to Computer and right click o the drive that has the disc in it. Select open with and open it with Fritz 12.
