Local TD certification??

Hello,

I am a Club Tournament Director and would like to upgrade my certification to the Local TD. However, after searching in vain all over the website, I can’t figure out how to proceed. I found a page detailing the TD certification rules, as well as the form to apply to be a Club director, but I can’t find either a form to fill out to apply for a higher certification or the required test anywhere. Can anyone tell me where these materials can be found?

Thanks!

Nick G

Hi Nick,

This is where it was located on the site: uschess.org → About → Staff → “Tournament Director Certification tdcert@uschess.org

Send an e-mail to the address with the events you directed (the large TOCC events, not blitzes) and you’ll receive your local test.

Best of luck,
Acerook

When applying please list the 12-digit event IDs, your position, and the number of players. You can use 201606133182 both as a Local TD requirement and also use it eventually as a Senior TD requirement. You know where this was found, but for the edification of others there is an option in TD/A to look at a TD’s experience record.

But, note that the numbers listed there are not necessarily accurate. This got my wife when she had a tournament that was listed as 52 players there but really only had 49.

Granted. It has the sum of all the sections and doesn’t take into account the duplication of things like extra-game sections and bye players from one section serving as house players in another section. In this particular case (for LTD) the TD easily had the 50+ total players and there is no lower limit on the number of players for a tournament to be usable.

Section chief numbers in TD/A (as opposed to overall chief or overall chief assistant) are good because they are for the largest individual section and do not need to take into account whether or not somebody played in multiple sections.

Thanks for the responses everyone!
