New FIDE rating changes for July 1

Effective July 1, unrated players who earn a ratable performance in a FIDE-rated Swiss event, will effect their rated opponents. Currently, a rated player can lose to an unrated player and it will have no effect at all on the rated player’s rating. Starting in July, an unrated player who scores at least ½ point against three or more FIDE-rated players will have their performance rating count versus the rated player. This was confirmed today in a conversation with Stewart Reuben and is reflected in the new wording of FIDE rating regulations effective 7/1/2009:

So, gone are the days that rated players can rest or take it easy against an unrated player as well as throw a game to help an unrated’s first rating. I like this change

Yes and there are well more changes than just this that affect title norm purposes.

And the Myanmar Federation was relisted with all players chopped 100-200 FIDE rating points for their rating baking activities.
