I think it is about time we had a new rule book published. I am cramming 33 pages, size 8 1/2 x 11 folded in half, into my V. 5, which is pencil marked up with what rules are revised so I know when to check the revisions. AND more revisions come each year. I’d like to see V6, if it ever gets published, printed in loose-leaf, three hole punched, form so that revised pages can be substituted easily. Art Byers
Actually, Art, from what I’ve heard, next year the USCF Rules will be published electronically with all the additions since 5th Edition incorporated into the electronic version.
With respect to our scientific journals, this is what my organization, the AAVSO, did a couple of years ago. Realizing that some people still like paper books, and that there are some situations where they are still more useful, we elected to publish the journal electronically, but then contracted with a print-on-demand firm to enable members who wanted to order a print copy for themselves. This is the route I think we should go down with respect to the 2012 Rulebook.
If anyone in Crossville is intersted in the particulars of the arrangement (company we use, etc), you can certainly contact me.
But then I wouldn’t be able to just fit it in my pants pocket so that it was available immediately if I needed to make a ruling.
P.S. Needless to say, I don’t wear jeans.
Yep, the delegates passed a motion to make the e-version of the rulebook available. Last week I sent an e-mail to Bill Hall and asked what the progress was on that item. I await a reply.
I still have received no reply from Bill. I assume my original e-mail got lost so I just sent another one.
Bill Hall called today. He is still working on the 5th edition e-version publication and the upcoming 6th edition formats.
Any movement on this matter?
Nope, not that I have been informed.
