USCF Life Member Rev. Boyle passes

It is with great sadness that I report to the chess community that Oklahoma has lost another USCF Life Member, my good friend Reverend Ed Boyle. Ed passed away Thursday, May 15th, at St. John’s hospital in Tulsa, OK, due to complications related to a recent accident. Originally from New York, Ed moved to Tulsa and was an active member of the chess community, coaching players and directing many tournaments.

Ed was an accomplished over-the-board player but thrived in correspondence chess. He was active as a coach and mentor to many players and ran a number of quick chess tournaments at the local chess club. Ed served as a board member of the Oklahoma Chess Association and was a graduate of Rhema Bible Training Center, serving as an accredited minister as well in the New York area before moving to Tulsa.

Ed’s contributions will be missed by the Oklahoma chess community. A memorial service is being planned in Tulsa and then he will be laid to rest in his home state of New York.

Condolences. May he rest (peace/piece)fully.

I met Ed only one time; at a tournament in Tulsa a couple of years ago. He did love Oklahoma and chess players of all ages. This is a huge loss for all the lives he touched. My deepest sympathies for his family and the Oklahoma chess community.
