Jerry Newgarten has passed away

Just received an email that long time chess teacher Jerry Newgarten has passed away. Information in the email stated that he passed away peacefully at his home with his wife at his side. The email requested that in lieu of flowers that donations in his name be made to the USCF [new.uschess.org/give]. I have no other information.

Lawrence Cohen [IL]

Neugarten. A former US Chess award winner and great chess resource both in NY and IL. He will be missed.

Jerry was a great guy. Working as a coach for him with the Coxsackie Chess Club in New York, Jerry showed me his love for the many kids that he had at there. He also wrote a curriculum for US Chess and was honored a few years ago as a US Chess award winner. My condolences goes out to his family. Rest in peace, Jerry.

Jerry was a great tournament director and an overall great person. May he Rest In Peace.

Jerry was a force of nature!

For those who want to honor his memory, may I suggest a cause dear to his heart, https://chicagochessfoundation.org/. I have no affiliation with CCF other than being a donor.
