While on the bus ride back from whale watching(we did see one) at Depoe Bay Oregon I was wondering if a chess garage sale might be a good idea. Have folks bring their chess items they no longer need or want to a central location. They pay a table rent fee. That fee goes to the location or chess club. Only have it for a few hours on a Saturday or Sunday and a blitz tournament afterwards. With proper ads some of the general public might show up.

If you’re fortunate enough to have a local 501(c)(3) chess organization available, you might check out eBay Giving Works: basically a way to move the charitable garage sale online.

The Illinois Chess Association has used it, with modest success.
